Home Security Tips for the Festive Season

The festive season at the end of the year is always a time to look forward to. Unfortunately, it is also a time when crime rates go up drastically.  Most of us are more relaxed about security awareness during this time of rest and relaxation, and homes can be vulnerable to burglars, particularly when you are away on holiday.

Here are a few safety and security tips for this festive period:

§  Do a system check with your security company and make sure your alarm and panic buttons are working properly.

§  If you go out in the evening, leave some lights on, but not your Christmas tree lights as these are a frequent cause of fires.

§  If you are going on holiday alert your security company that you will be out of town and whether you will have anybody looking in on your home while away.

§  Get somebody you trust to look in on your home & collect mail if you’ll be away for a while. Burglars look for occupancy clues like outdoor lights burning 24 hours a day, and piled up mail.

§  Talk to trusted neighbours and inform them if you are not going to be around for a few days, but do NOT advertise to the world that you’re going on holiday – your information may be available to the wrong people. Brag about your holiday after you get back!
